International English standardized exams have gained importance in Latin America and around the world. The real reason for this is the need to have a valid method of appraising the extent to which learners can understand and speak the English language.

Many individuals rely on International English language exams, like Global Language Training GEP English Exams, to demonstrate their level of English proficiency. Scoring well on one of these exams provides an additional credential that reflects a third-party certification of proficiency. While these language exams may not be required, they demonstrate mastery of English and can be beneficial for resume building, job qualifications, internship applications, scholarship applications, and educational background.

Another important factor is that some English language exams are ranked in terms of difficulty. The Common European Framework (CEFR) is a method for self-evaluating your fluency in English. The framework uses six levels to describe language ability, ranging from A1 to C2. Depending on your level, there is a test that is geared to that level of difficulty. This consideration led Global Language Training to develop the GEP English Exams. The old classification of beginner, intermediate, and advanced doesn't quite suffice—precise boundaries between these and other intermediate subcategories, such as pre-intermediate and upper-intermediate, are needed for a proper assessment of English language proficiency.

The Council of Europe has been working since 1989 to provide a method of learning, teaching, and assessing that can be applied to all languages in Europe. Continued deliberation and effort eventually resulted in the development of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning, Teaching, and Assessment. This framework is the culmination of collaboration among many members of the teaching profession across Europe and beyond. In 2001, the European Union Council recommended using the CEFR to establish systems of validation for language ability, an initiative that is becoming widely accepted as the European standard for rating an individual’s language proficiency. Global Language Training GEP English exams were designed from conception based 100% on the Common European Framework of Reference.
